General Information

Beaumont Hospital is a 600 bed teaching hospital in North Dublin. It is the main teaching hospital for the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland Medical School. Beaumont Hospital is the national tertiary referral centre for Neurosurgery, Renal Transplantation and Radiation Oncology and is a centre of excellence for Neurology.

The Psychiatry Department in Beaumont Hospital is a well-established Liaison Psychiatry Service with sub-specialities in Neuropsychiatry, Psycho-oncology, Psycho-hepatology and Transplantation Psychiatry. Beaumont Hospital takes BST trainees from the SJOG rotation, the RCSI/HSE rotation and the North Dublin General Practice training scheme.

Teaching

There is an extensive programme of teaching within the Department with weekly case presentations and journal clubs, monthly research meetings and regular audit meetings.

Research and Audit

Trainees are encouraged to take part in research or audit during their six month placement here. There is an active research programme within the Department (see Research section).

Post Membership Opportunities

There are also excellent opportunities for post-membership trainees in the Beaumont Hospital/ RCSI Psychiatry Department with lecturer, tutor and clinical research fellow positions regularly available.
