Cluain Mhuire Community Mental Health Service

Cluain Mhuire Service [] is a national centre of innovation in public mental health service provision delivering a community-based adult Psychiatric service for the south east area of County Dublin to a catchment area of some 185,000 people approximately.

It aspires to provide best outcomes for those presenting with mental disorders and has pioneered, piloted and mainstreamed Ireland’s first early intervention in psychosis programme [] as well as developing Dialectical Behaviour Therapy for those with Borderline Personality Disorders. In addition, we have spearheaded the use of electronic patient records are the only Irish mental health service that operates with paperless records.


Established in 1971, services include acute Day Hospital care and treatment, a Day Care Centre, Rehabilitation and Pre-Vocational training, Outpatient Services and a Residential Rehabilitation Programme.

Registrars in Psychiatry


Locum positions are now available for a period of 6 months commencing with immediate effect. Part time positions will be considered.

 These posts will be in the areas of general adult inpatient and community psychiatry. The post is an ideal opportunity if you are interested in entering or enhancing a career in psychiatry and expanding your experience by working in a top class clinical and academic environment. You will be well supported by Multidisciplinary colleagues.

Successful applicants will gain experience in the treatment and management of a full range of psychiatric disorders and will be expected to participate fully in our active teaching programme. Trainees are expected to participate in clinical audit and will be supported to carry out original research as well as gaining postgraduate examinations and higher degrees.


A degree in medicine is a basic requirement. All applicants must be currently registered with the Irish Medical Council (IMC). Candidates must also ensure that they meet the eligibility criteria with regards to immigration status, English language skills, and the minimum educational entry criteria for the specialty and level as set out in the person specification. We will conduct garda clearance checks on all successful candidates.
